Crowns
Dental crowns, sometimes referred to as caps, are indicated for teeth that have a compromised structure and are at a risk of fracture. This includes teeth that have had root canal treatments, have internal cracks, and /or have lost a large part of their foundation due to tooth decay.
Crowns can be made of several different materials, such as metals, porcelain, or a combination of the two.
Crowns are typically completed in two appointments. At the first appointment, 1-2 millimeters of the outer layer of the tooth is removed to allow for the fabrication of the crown and an impression is taken that allows the lab to create a custom crown for the tooth. You will leave this first appointment with a temporary crown that is created in our office. Once the lab has fabricated the permanent crown, it can be tried in and cemented at the second and final appointment.
